a toroidal transformer is nearly the best you can use for this kind of LED spots.
You can use the existing transformer for the LED spots - only the efficiency of the transformer itself will decrease a bit due to the lower load.

But only a few percent. For 8 Spots around 45W are needed. This is about 15% load. According to this graphic:

a 300VA toroidal transformer has still more than 90% efficiency.
